Help and Advice to Stop Smoking

  • Get professional support: You are up to three times more likely to quit for good if you use a combination of treatment and support from an NHS Stop Smoking Service.
  • Use stop-smoking products: Nicotine replacement therapies (NRTs), prescription medicines (like varenicline or cytisine), and e-cigarettes are effective aids for managing cravings and withdrawal symptoms.
  • Create a plan: Develop a personalised "quit plan" that includes setting a quit date, identifying triggers, and finding alternative activities to keep yourself occupied.
  • Seek social support: Tell friends and family about your plans so they can support you. You can also join an NHS Smokefree Facebook group or other local support groups.
  • Stay positive: Quitting is a process, and relapses can happen. If you slip up, treat it as a learning experience and start again as soon as possible.
